Rainbow village Taichung Taiwan

Once boring, grey and neglected, today it is coloured with all the colours of the world. It is hard to believe that this is due to only one man. It’s time to go to Taiwan, to be more precise to Taichung.
The rainbow village is located in Taiwan, more precisely in its central-western part in the city of Taichung. It was founded in the late 1940s and early 1950s as a temporary residence for nationalist soldiers. Over time, the place has changed for the worse, mainly due to neglected and abandoned houses and slums. But everything changed because of one man – Huang Yung-fu, an 86-year-old war veteran. Thanks to his transformation, virtually every street and wall is covered with paintings depicting television characters, stars, animals, plants and everything that fits into the surrounding landscape.
